Fashion Related Experience

palmer//harding, Rickmansworth January-June 2015

For 5 months, I undertook a fashion design placement, working as a studio assistant.  My main duties were pattern drafting, garment embellishment, research development, shop and trend reports and organising the stock for shipments. Here I learnt a great deal about the different aspects that go into running a business. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the process of how a product goes from design sketches to production and sales. I also assisted at 2 of their fashion shows where I learnt to work within a fast paced environment, which required constantly using my initiative.

Volunteered at London Graduate Fashion Week- June 2014

Volunteered for the Baltic Northumbria University Graduate show – May 2014

I worked backstage for both shows dressing models and organising collections. These were highly valuable experiences which taught me how to work in a pressured, fast paced environment, and helped me to grow in self confidence.

Next Retail Store, Monks Cross, York- October 2011-June 2013

I was employed as a Sales assistant and the focus was giving exceptional service to the customers. From working at Next, I greatly improved my confidence by talking to customers and learnt how to work quickly under pressure during busy sale periods. I advised customers on style and fit, and learnt about the top selling pieces, advancing my knowledge on how current trends influence sales.

Event Prop Hire, York -2 weeks work experience in July 2010

I learnt about the stages of production for the manufacture of props; working as part of the team to create a professionally finished product.

Newspaper Delivery, Haxby- March 2009- September 2011

Volunteering at Joseph Rowntree Fashion Club- 2013

This club was to educate the lower school on textiles and fashion; I helped the students use the sewing machines and advised them on the projects we undertook.

Volunteering as a maths tutor for year 11 pupils-2012

Volunteer work at Haxby Community Centre-2009-2011
